Summary
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 lacks a fishing mini-game, despite evidence of its planned inclusion in the first game.
- Unused files in the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance hint at fishing features that were never implemented.
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has labeled fishing spots with fish, suggesting potential future updates could include a fishing mini-game.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has achieved massive success since its release, likely due to it offering one of the most authentic and immersive role-playing experiences ever crafted for a video game. As players explore Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s faithful recreation of medieval Bohemia, they are likely to be lured off course a multitude of times as the wilderness and the towns that inhabit it long to be explored. Throughout its sizable open world, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 plays host to countless activities for players to complete, including everything from main and side quests to more relaxing ventures like blacksmithing and dice.
Despite all that it has to offer in terms of content and immersion, however, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is sorely lacking a popular, cozy pastime — especially as an RPG. In many other RPGs, players can take a much-deserved break from the more demanding tasks at hand to cast some line out toward a body of water and wait for a fish to bite. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, on the other hand, players are never given the option to fish at all, which is a shame. That being said, there remains a case for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 to add the feature in a future update, based on some locations present in the game and its predecessor’s history with the feature.

There Were Unused Files for a Fishing Mini-Game in the First Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Interestingly enough, there were unused files for a fishing mini-game in the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which begs the question of why it hasn’t been included in the sequel. Of course, these leftover files only suggest that fishing was originally intended to be a feature in the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, but that suggestion leans more on the side of actual evidence.
For example, Kingdom Come: Deliverance‘s files contain numerous fishing rods, although they are never used in the game. Some lines of dialogue for Kingdom Come: Deliverance also mention fishing, potentially indicating that the mini-game was considered at some point during development. Finally, various water animations and some AI script present in the game’s files hint at planned fishing mechanics as well. It’s possible Warhorse Studios initially developed fishing as a survival mechanic, much like hunting, but ultimately cut it due to time constraints or difficulties in its implementation. It’s also worth noting that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a very ambitious game, like its successor, and Warhorse simply had to prioritize features that mattered most.
There Are Several Locations in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Labeled ‘Fishing Spot’
As if its apparent near-inclusion in the first game wasn’t already enough, what’s perhaps even more interesting about the sequel’s exclusion of fishing is that players can find several locations in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s Trosky region labeled “Fishing Spot.” Upon arriving at these areas and looking into the water, it’s even possible to see various fish swimming around, as though they are waiting to be caught. At one of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s Fishing Spots, players can even encounter a lone fisherman who appears to have been fishing but complains that they simply aren’t biting.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 already has DLC planned for the coming months, and unfortunately, none of them seem to include fishing. However, there is enough reason, between what is found in the first game’s files and the various Fishing Spots throughout Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s Trosky region, for a fishing mini-game to be implemented at some point in the future. Even if Henry doesn’t know how to fish, perhaps an update could add a fishing instructor to the game, along with the appropriate Fishing skill for players to level. It would not only give players access to one of the most popular RPG pastimes in what is now one of the most successful RPGs ever made, but it would offer them a peaceful getaway as they explore Bohemia.
