Recently, Nintendo announced that Mario & Luigi: Brothership received its first update, now available for download. Update 1.0.1 focuses on bug fixes, with eight specific issues detailed in the patch notes, while others remain undocumented. Among the worst bugs fixed was one where the boss battle in Color-Full Sea Great Lighthouse would occur in the wrong location, blocking game progress. Another issue involved repeatedly calling Luigi in the Skorcheen Island cave, which could endlessly trigger the command and also block the game.
Another alarming bug occurred when defeating monsters using the Battle Plug Countdown to Crush. If players completed a challenge simultaneously, it could soft-lock the game. Other bugs are quite specific, such as defeating a Mega Snaptor with the offensive Surprise Iron Ball while having the Coinpiler equipped, which would result in Mario and Luigi gaining zero experience. One bug prevented players from receiving any reward even after scoring 100 or more points in the Hammer Rally. Now, those who perfect the minigame will receive a Luck Charm DX.
Since the inception of the Mario & Luigi series with Superstar Saga in 2003, the games have been developed by AlphaDream. However, after the company declared bankruptcy in 2019, the series’ fate was uncertain. Recently, it came to light that Nintendo nearly abandoned the Mario & Luigi series before bringing in new talent to produce a new title. The company chosen was Acquire, known for games like Akiba’s Beat and Octopath Traveler. The result seems to have pleased both Nintendo and the fans, giving the brothers’ RPG series a new lease on life.
